When we open in Fall 2019, membership will be limited to individuals and community organizations located in Gowanus and our surrounding five neighborhoods (see map).
Our suggested annual membership fee is $20 to $100 for individuals. The fee is pay-what-you-can and no one will be turned away as long as you’re in our service area and are 18+ years of age.
Benefits of membership include access to the tool bank as well as discounted/free admission to workshops and demos.
We will follow the best practices of other successful tool libraries, allowing most tools to be checked out for a week at a time. More popular or costly tools may have shorter lending periods and/or deposits required.
All tools will be subject to late return fees and/or damage fees. This is one way tool libraries encourage responsible use of their tools, and ensure that tools are available when people want them.
Full details on our membership and lending policies will be available soon.
Members will be able to search our inventory and reserve tools online for later pickup. Or you can always stop by during open hours to see what we have available.
Initially we’ll be offering tools and equipment for common DIY and home improvement projects: carpentry/woodwork, plumbing, electrical, surfaces (floors/wall/paint/tile), as well as measuring and mechanic’s tools, ladders, and shop vacs.
We want to hear from you—take our survey here to tell us what tools you would use.
